The so-called "Golden Age of Piracy" began in the late 1600s in the area now known as the Caribbean. Our stories and movies tell us these pirates were freedom-loving heroes who swept women off their feet. Well, the second part may be true but it was not for romance more likely it would have been for ransom! The pirates were basically terrorists who lived only to serve themselves. They were dirty, nasty and often ended up captured and dead. This is the true story of pirates.

Notes

Pirate Notes 1Explores some of the modern myths about pirates and where pirates began historically. (Well, the Caribbean variety at least). Stop at Francis Drake.
Pirate Notes 2 Reviews the lives of two famous pirates, Francis Drake and Blackbeard while further breaking down the myths that have for some reason made these awful men into heroes.
