Samurais, sumo wrestling, Hello Kitty, Ninjas, volcanoes, Nintendo - what more could you want? Japan today is one of the worst most advanced nations. What is particularly amazing is how quickly (well, in historical terms at least) how quickly it got there. The well-known samurai period of Japan didn't begin until the 1200s and ninjas (yes, they're real!) came even later than that. Japan early on closely followed China as a model but eventually branched off to create her own entirely unique (and entirely awesome) culture.

Notes

Japan Week1Geography and society are covered. Discusses how the Japanese dealt with having so little farmland and the culture they ultimately created as a result.
Japan Week 2Economics, government are technology are covered. Includes information about the rise of the samurai class, their weapons and armor, and of course ninjas.

Japan Walkthrough

Chapter Walkthrough assignment. Remember, focus only on the graphics in the book as you work!

Haiku!

The Japanese have long believed that smaller is better and that holds true in their poetry. Haikus are only 3 lines! Amazing!
