Assignment Instructions

Listed below are the assignment instructions for our Choose Your Own Adventure packets. If you need the instruction sheets for individual class assignments (like Chapter Walks or Study Guides) click on the week you missed in the "This Week In Class" section.

20-30 Minute Assignments

Annotated Illustration	Not Available	Short assignment where students draw a picture of a historical object and annotate it with captions.
Be The Thing	Not Available	Short assignment where students write a short explanation of their experiences as if they were a particular object from history (for example: Da Vinci's paintbrush).
Bio-poem	Not Available	Short assignment where students complete a poem with a pre-made layout about a specific person (or group) in history. Requires detailed information about the figure.
Bumper Sticker	Not Available	Short assignment where students create a bumper sticker about a specific topic. Usable in any unit. Highly recommend if you have creative students.
Cause and Effect Chain	Not Available	Short assignment where students describe two causes and two effects of a historical event. Requires any event with obvious causes and effects.
Creative Line Art	Not Available	Short assignment where students are given a picture with random shapes and scribbles that they then "complete" to make it something about the unit. Highly recommended.
Epitaph/ Gravestone	Not Available	Short assignment where students design the epitaph for a famous figure. Requires some detailed information about the figure as currently written but easily modified to fit any figure.

HiStory	HiStory Rubric	2 day assignment where students write a creative fictional story using key terms and figures from the unit.

History Board Game	History Board Game Rubric	2 day assignment where students use a basic file folder to create a board game about a period in history. Highly recommended.
History Web Page	Webpage Rubric	2 day assignment (potentially longer depending on requirements) where students create a web page about a specific topic from a unit.
One-pager	One-pager Rubric	2 day assignment where students design a one page magazine-style cover for a section of the textbook. Highly recommended.

4 Hour Assignments

A-Z History Book	A-Z Book Rubric	4 day project where students, in pairs, create a picture book for 24-26 key terms from a unit, each starting with a different letter of the Alphabet. Best used in large units.
History Model	Model Rubric	4 day assignment where students write a report on and build a model of a technological achievement from history.
History Newscast	Newscast Rubric	4 day assignment where a group of students film a short newscast presentation on a historical event.
History Newspaper	Not Available	4 day assignment where a group of students create a newspaper with multiple articles and elements on a period in history.
Mind Map	Not available	4 day assignment where students create a large word cluster using terms from a given unit. They then write sentences explaining why they made certain connections. Works very well as an assessment.
